"Every person deserves a chance to be themselves...[and] everyone deserves a chance to speak their mind, even if I don't agree with them...and knowing that people have different opinions for different reasons...giving people a chance to explain why is so important."
7 May 2017: Clara Detlefsen and I talk dealing with anger, forgiving yourself for mistakes, and appreciating opposing viewpoints. Oh also, she's Canadian. Huge plus. Click on the YouTube video below to check it out!
Reflections on my Conversation: So I know Clara, like several other of the people I chat to, through Women's Football here in St Andrews. I've always had such a blast hanging out with her but we haven't had the chance to sit down and really chat, per say but I'm so glad she volunteered to do this and we got a chance to talk! I learn a lot from every person I talk to but the biggest takeaway I have from mine and Clara's conversation, the most poignant part, I think, is her honesty about a time when she didn't necessarily make the right decision and the process of learning from that and forgiving herself for that. As cliche as it sounds, we all make mistakes, but what makes those experiences valuable are those learning points and Clara is so aware of those learning opportunities and is just so open to learn in general! But combine that with her passionate personal views, she really is someone with a great mix of personal gumption, if you will, and flexibility in different situations. Thank you, Clara! (and sorry for mispronouncing your name ... oops!) :)
